Who Is Ms. Marvel in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls?
Kamala Khan has gone from fan-fiction-writing fangirl to one of Marvel’s most important modern heroes, and her inclusion in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls feels inevitable in the best possible way. Her Inhuman polymorph powers — stretchy limbs, size-shifting, the ability to “embiggen” her fists to absurd proportions — translate naturally into fighting game mechanics. Arc System Works has clearly leaned into that, and the trailer footage shows her reaching across the screen with extended punches that cover distances other characters simply cannot.
She’s an Avenger through and through, and her gameplay reflects that team-player identity. While she can hold her own solo, Kamala looks designed to synergize with the tag system in ways that reward creative team construction. She’s also one of the most visually expressive characters on the roster, with ArcSys’ animation team doing justice to the exaggerated, cartoony quality of her powers.
Playstyle and Archetype
Ms. Marvel is an all-rounder who tilts toward mid-range control. Her stretchy normals give her pokes that reach further than they have any right to, letting her control space at ranges where most characters have nothing. Think of her as a character who dominates the mid-screen — too far for rushdown characters to pressure easily, too close for zoners to zone comfortably.
Her embiggen mechanics add a layer of complexity. Based on trailer footage, it looks like certain moves can be charged or enhanced to increase their size and hitbox, possibly at the cost of recovery or commitment. That risk-reward element is where her medium difficulty comes from — understanding when to go big and when to play safe is the key to mastering Kamala.
She pairs naturally with the Wall-Break system. Her extended limbs likely push opponents significant distances, and several moves look like they have strong wall-splat potential. Getting opponents to the corner and forcing a stage transition should be a realistic gameplan even from mid-screen.
Signature Moves and Specials (Expected)
Speculation based on trailer footage and Kamala’s powerset. Nothing confirmed frame-data-wise.
Embiggen Strike — A forward-reaching punch with extended range. Probably her primary mid-range poke. Charged versions likely increase range and damage at the cost of more recovery.
Stretch Kick — A sweeping low or mid-hitting kick with range. Fills a different angle than Embiggen Strike and likely part of her mix-up game with highs and lows.
Mega Morph Fist — An overhead slam where Kamala enlarges her fist and brings it down. Expect slow startup but strong reward on hit. A key mix-up tool against opponents who over-respect her lows. The offense and mixup system will determine how dangerous this truly is.
Polymorph Slide — A low-profile movement option. Kamala morphs and dashes forward, likely low-hitting or going under projectiles. Important for dealing with zoners like Storm and Magneto.
Giant Girl (Super) — Kamala grows to enormous size and delivers massive strikes. Probably her level-1 Soul Gauge super, covering huge space and doing excellent damage.
Embiggened Finale (Expected Level-3) — A fully cinematic super where Kamala goes maximum size. ArcSys will absolutely make this one of the most visually spectacular supers in the game.
Tag and Assist Synergy
Kamala’s tag value comes from her range. Her expected Embiggen Fist assist would cover a huge horizontal area, swatting opponents who try to approach your point character. It’s a different niche than Iron Man’s beam — less full-screen, but more active hitbox frames and more blockstun. In the assist system, this kind of lingering mid-range coverage is invaluable.
On tag-in, Kamala benefits from setups that leave the opponent at her ideal mid-range distance. If a partner ends a combo with a knockdown that leaves the opponent just outside close range, tagging Kamala in gives her the exact spacing she wants to start her pressure.
Her stretchy combo extensions should also make her a strong combo contributor. Tagging her in mid-combo to extend with her unique reach, then tagging back to a finisher — that’s the kind of creative tag routing that makes Tōkon’s tag system sing.
Who to Pair Him With
Ms. Marvel’s mid-range emphasis wants teammates who handle the ranges she doesn’t dominate.
Captain America — Cap’s shield toss and Kamala’s extended fists create an overlapping mid-range wall. Neither character has a bad matchup at their preferred distance, making this pairing stable and frustrating to fight against.
Spider-Man — Spidey gets in fast and applies close-range pressure that Kamala sometimes can’t. When Peter runs his mix-ups, Kamala’s assist keeps the opponent pinned. When the opponent pushes Spider-Man out, tag to Kamala and own mid-screen.
Ghost Rider — Both characters thrive at ranges most fighters hate. Ghost Rider’s chain normals and Kamala’s stretchy limbs create a “good luck getting in” gameplan that forces opponents to take big risks. Read the defense guide if you’re on the receiving end of this.
Tips for Beginners
Kamala rewards patience and spacing more than raw aggression. Your goal is to keep opponents at the tip of your extended normals — close enough to threaten them, far enough that they struggle to threaten you back. Start with her basic ground chain, focusing on using Embiggen Strike at max range to fish for counter-hits. Don’t get greedy with charged moves until you understand the risk — a whiffed big embiggen punch leaves you wide open. The beginner’s guide will teach you the defensive fundamentals you’ll need for the close-range situations where Kamala is less comfortable.
Tips for Competitive Players
Ms. Marvel’s competitive depth is in her range management and charged move mix-ups. Once you understand how the opponent’s movement options interact with her normals, you can suffocate their approach and force them into desperation. Practice converting stray hits at unusual ranges into full combos — Kamala’s ability to confirm from distances where other characters would whiff is her defining competitive advantage. Study how her extended hitboxes interact with the Wall-Break system, because consistent mid-screen Wall-Break routes could make her a team-building machine.
