Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls beta footage reveals Ms. Marvel's high-range normal attacks, while Spider-Man's funky Webstep theme divides fighting game fans.

The fighting game community is getting its closest look yet at how Arc System Works is handling Marvel’s heavy hitters. Thanks to fresh leaks from ongoing closed beta tests and official character guides, we now have real matches showing how the game’s mechanics are holding up in live neutral situations. From stretch-fist zoning to dynamic tag-ins, here is what the latest footage tells us about the meta.

Ms. Marvel Takes Spacing to the Extreme

Newly leaked closed beta footage showcases a highly anticipated matchup: Ms. Marvel taking on Captain America. The gameplay clips demonstrate how Kamala Khan leverages her size-shifting abilities for space control.

Kamala’s normals look incredibly oppressive. Her embiggened limbs stretch across almost two-thirds of the screen, allowing her to poke safely from ranges where most characters cannot retaliate. In the leaked footage, we see her executing long-range sweep kicks and giant overhead fist drops that look like a nightmare to challenge in the neutral game.

However, big limbs mean big hurtboxes. A few frames of recovery on a missed stretch punch left Kamala open to Captain America’s quick shield throw punishes. Players will need to be precise with their button presses to avoid getting counter-hit out of their zoning attempts.

Tag Synergy and Shield Assists

The beta matchup also shed light on how the tag system works when mixing up defensive specialists and rushdown pressure. Captain America’s official character guide outlines his utility as a reliable anchor or point character. Cap’s classic Charging Star and Shield Slash moves serve as excellent tools for covering space.

When paired together, Kamala’s long-range pokes setup easy active switch options. In one sequence, Kamala lands a max-range crouching medium, switches to Captain America mid-animation, and continues the blockstring with a Charging Star. Cap’s shield toss assists also appear to offer solid blockstun, giving point characters enough time to open up opponents with high-low mixups.

Spider-Man’s Polarizing Theme: Enter “Webstep”

Arc System Works is legendary for its heavy rock and vocal soundtracks, but Spider-Man’s character theme is taking a sharp turn into electronic territory. Titled Webstep, the track has officially made its way to the community, and the reaction is highly divided.

Rather than the epic orchestral swells or fast-paced metal riffs fans expected, Webstep is a funky, bass-heavy glitch-hop track.

  • The Fans: FGC members appreciate the departure from typical superhero tropes, noting that the erratic synth lines fit Peter Parker’s frantic, high-mobility web-swinging style.
  • The Critics: Traditionalists argue the track feels too chaotic for a competitive match theme and lacks the iconic heroic hook of older Marvel fighting game soundtracks.

Whether you love or hate the glitchy beats, it is clear that Arc System Works is not playing it safe with the game’s musical identity.

Peni Parker Joins the Fray

Adding to the spider-themed hype, a new trailer debuted during the Arc World Tour Finals 2026, confirming Peni Parker and her SP//dr mech suit for the launch roster. While full gameplay breakdowns are still under wraps, the teaser suggests she will function as a heavy-hitting, armor-reliant combatant. How her large frame will interact with the game’s fast-paced tag-in combos remains one of the community’s biggest questions heading into the August launch.
