Sony Reaffirms Multiplayer Strategy

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) CEO Hideaki Nishino recently discussed the publisher’s long-term live-service roadmap in an interview with Famitsu. Despite high-profile setbacks in the multiplayer space, Nishino made it clear that Sony is not backing away from the genre. Instead, the publisher is leaning into cross-platform accessibility, explicitly highlighting the upcoming Arc System Works-developed fighter, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.

According to Nishino, live-service titles require a massive day-one player base to thrive. This necessity dictates a simultaneous release across both console and PC ecosystems, cementing the game’s release date and platforms rollout. Sony plans to support this ecosystem well into the next-gen console cycle, ensuring matchmaking pools remain populated and active.

Evo France 2026 Locks in Tournament Debut

On the competitive side, tournament organizers confirmed that the game will make its official debut at Evo France 2026. The event, scheduled for October 9-11 in Nice, France, will feature the 4v4 tag fighter just a few months after its August release.

This announcement aligns with the game’s integration into the competitive scene, having recently joined the official Arc World Tour 2026-27 roster. Competitors will have a short window post-launch to master the tag mechanics, assists, and wall-break systems before testing their skills on the international stage.

PS5 Pro Enhanced Tag and Character Tracks

In the community, players spotted a “PS5 Pro Enhanced” certification on digital storefronts. While SIE has not confirmed exact performance metrics, the FGC expects the mid-gen console upgrade to target a locked 60 FPS at higher native resolutions, or potentially support a 120Hz mode for reduced input latency.

At the same time, character hype continues to build as theme music snippets begin to circulate. A preview of the heavy-hitting theme for Storm recently surfaced on social media, showcasing the signature high-energy rock and electronic fusion that Arc System Works is known for.
